Let’s look back on one of the best movie summers ever with this classic preview of big releases of 2008.

I have always been a public advocate of not watching too much television. Many who know me have heard the phrase “Watching television is unproductive” escape my lips on more than one occasion. And its true, I have always fronted as an anti-TV, pro-Cinema goon who hypocritically owns a nice HDTV and subscribes to HD cable. It is a terrible element of my life, thus I must seek some retribution.

My greatest fear for Baby Mama was that it would end up being another incarnation of The Brothers Solomon, but with women. Thankfully, Tina Fey and company are smarter than that, and Baby Mama turns in a surprisingly good showing.

Great script, heartwarming story, great ensemble cast, Ellen Page… Hmm, this sounds familiar.

Back in August of 2006 in Toronto, director Jonathan Levine’s film All the Boys Love Mandy Lane was picked up for distribution. Flash forward to May of 2008, its supposed month of release. Will we see it? It is doubtful, at best…

Set at the dawn of pro football in the 1920s, Leatherheads is a spirited affair that isn’t quite a football movie, but more of a romantic comedy that uses football as a backdrop. But with a solid cast and a little flair, it just might be worth a ticket.

Today we got some cool news from the Tribeca Press office that the festival, which was founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, will close with The Wachowski’s tripped out, CGI-infused cartoon adaptation Speed Racer.

I don’t know if we have ever explored this here on FSR, but I am a huge — and I mean huge — space race…
