There’s nothing about the first trailer released for The Tourist that makes the movie look special in anyway. It’s more of the same all echoed by Angelina Jolie slapping her vocal chords with fish and chips.
For those keeping score, there’s the mysterious attractive woman on a train, the mistaken identity, the boat chase scene from Indiana Jones, Europe, and an unmistakable sense of inertia. Stop me when you have a bingo.

Johnny Depp has done some great work, but his character feels like a computer programmer finally taking the money he’s saved up and blowing it on a European getaway. Either that, or he’s the calmest person to ever be attacked by gun-wielding men in suits. They’re trying. To break down. The door.
Depp is, of course, the replacement for Tom Cruise who dropped out over a year ago. Sam Worthington was primed to take the role, and it was a relief when Depp stepped in, but it doesn’t seem like he’s much more animated than Worthington would be. Jolie joined on replacing Charlize Theron.
The Tourist is a remake of Anthony Zimmer – a French film from 2005.
The movie very well may have some great chemistry and action, but this trailer does little to prove it.
