‘Phillip Morris’ Directors to Help Carell Through Hilarious Marital Problems

By  · Published on January 27th, 2010

After making Jim Carrey make out with Ewan MacGregor, the pair behind I Love You Phillip Morris will be rolling cameras on Steve Carell being generally funny and sorting through a difficult marriage.

According to Variety, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra will be tackling a story that finds Carell as:

a father whose life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.”

Pretty standard stuff, but Carell can always do a lot with a little.

The key here is the combination of personnel involved. Plus, it will be interesting to see Requa and Ficarra direct a film that they didn’t write themselves after their directing debut. Of course, the pair are more well-known for their tag team writing of Bad Santa and Bad News Bears. So, maybe the interesting thing is really just seeing them working without Billy Bob Thornton again.

The as-yet-untitled movie (unless it’s being called Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) was written by Dan Fogleman – who you’ll remember as the mind who brought us Cars and Fred Clause.

I’m guessing the tone of the comedy will be pretty broad.

What do you think?
