Nic Cage to Play Kato in ‘The Green Hornet’?

I’ve had so much fun with the casting and uncasting news for The Green Hornet, that I fear my life will be cold and empty by the time they actually start filming and have to stop firing, hiring and re-hiring people. Last week saw the news that Stephen Chow was finally completely off the picture – leaving a production that starts filming in two months without a Kato. Now there’s a report that Nic Cage is in negotiations to join the cast.

Luckily, Nic Cage won’t be the one filling Kato’s shoes.

According to Variety, the actor is, however, in talks to play the main gangster villain to the picture – bringing the sort of intensity to a bad guy that hasn’t been seen since John Travolta played Terl. They are also reporting, again, that Cameron Diaz is still in negotiations to play the love interest – bringing the sort of sweetness and sex appeal to a female lead that hasn’t been seen since John Travolta played Terl.

Who knows. With a ton of key switches right before the start of the game, it may make the production shaky or it might not matter at all. The biggest question is still who can take Chow’s place. On this week’s episode of Reject Radio, Landon Palmer suggested Tony Jaa in the role which is brilliant if he could actually muster some comedy. If not, I’d say the production should find someone who can handle comedy and martial arts with equal measure. But who?

What do you think?
