Shot by Shot with the ‘Birds of Prey’ Trailer

Harley Quinn doesn't need the Joker.
Birds Of Prey Featured

When Harley first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, she was accompanied by two hyenas named Bud and Lou. They’ve also played a part in the comics throughout the years, and it looks like they’ll be by her side in Birds of Prey.

In this scene, Roman tells Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) that Harley “belongs” to him. Zsasz is a psychotic serial killer who carves tally marks into his skin after taking lives, so expect him to get up to some dirty business in the film.

Here we see Harley tied up and surrounded by Roman and his goons. Joker isn’t the only male criminal who wants to be her master.

The teasers have been keeping Roman’s Black Mask alter ego a secret for now, but the painting in the background gives us an idea of what’s to come.

Here we see Harley in a pink dress and looking very reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe in Gentleman Prefer Blondes. This is also a nod to Madonna’s “Material Girl” video, which is interesting because the Queen of Pop was considered for the role of Harley Quinn in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Unchained.

In these scenes, the gang attends a carnival/funhouse and it looks very creepy from the outside. Of course, carnivals are synonymous with harlequins and clowns, and the location lends itself to a movie like this. In the second shot, Harley is seen holding the sledgehammer from Suicide Squad.

After cutting to the serial killer looking very sinister and demented, Harley tells the rest of the squad that “he’s after all of us.” Presumably, she’s referring to Roman, but he’s clearly using Victor to do his bidding.
