Wes Anderson Directs Adrien Brody in a Holiday Short for H&M

Short of the Day

Joy to the world.

The Monday after Thanksgiving is one of the hardest Mondays of the year. Most folks have been off work since quitting time last Wednesday, and after a lethargic weekend of overeating, overdrinking, and over-staring-at-the-television, the motivation to get up and go this morning is about equal with the motivation to juggle angry cobras.

But if there’s one thing sure to put a spring in your step, a smile on your face and a can-do spirit in your heart, it’s got to be the following delightfully-stereotypical short film from Wes Anderson starring Adrien Brody (The Pianist) shot for retailer H&M. Entitled Come Together, this short captures everything we love about Anderson – the bright palette, the almost-obsessive attention to minutiae, the playful yet introspective tone, and as much quirk as is fit to film – into one succinct and vibrant package. And maybe it’s just the inclusion of Brody that makes me feel this way, but if there’s one of his films that Anderson’s new short shares a kinship with, it’s The Darjeeling Limited.

But watch for yourself and decide, and bottom line: new Wes Anderson, y’all. As the director’s next (untitled) feature is animated, it could be a while before we see some live-action shenanigans of an Andersonian order, so soak up these four minutes like a doughnut does coffee, then take the buoyancy it exudes, absorb it for yourself and get out there and show Monday who’s boss.
