Episode: “Gotta Look Up To Get Down” (Season Five, Episode Seven)

Synopsis: Vince gets a gig doing a photo shoot with a model, but trouble arises when sparks fly between the two.  Eric and the two hapless losers, Drama and Turtle, follow along.  Elsewhere, Ari tries to work some business while attending a funeral for a dead studio head and is surprised when he’s offered the dead man’s job.

Review: Fantastic episode right up until Vince acts like a selfish little shit… but I should start from the beginning.  Ari attends the funeral of Alan Gray, the studio head who died on the golf course last week, and is his usual insensitive, business-minded self.  He tries to work his magic to get Vince back onto Smokejumpers, but instead, the president of the studio’s parent company offers Ari the dead man’s job.  It’s a legitimate and believable move in a town where Ari knows all the players and has paid his dues for many years.  He’s thrilled by the idea, both for the monetary rewards that come with it as well as what it means for his favorite client, Vince.  But when he tells Vince and asks what he thinks, Vince says “I think I’d like us to finish what we started together.”

What the fuck is that?  So because Vince has made piss poor decisions about his own career that have knocked him back down to the cellar he thinks Ari should stay immobile with him?  And judging from the look on Ari’s face he actually may let Vince’s idiotic opinion sway his decision!  This is a no-brainer for the character of Ari. No real life agent/head of an agency would say no to this offer.  More important though, this would be a great move for the show.  It would open up so many more avenues of adventure and comic fun for Ari’s asinine behavior, and sure he’d be fired by next season and have to go back to being an agent again, but c’mon… this will piss me off if he passes on the offer simply to placate Vince.

Meanwhile… Vince’s gig with the supermodels ends up going nowhere professionally, but as is always the case the lucky as hell quartet ends up on a private jet for a mini-sojourn with the Amazonian ladies.  All well and good, and I hate to start sounding like Turtle… but when the hell are we going to see some boobies and ass again?  And did anyone else notice what was playing on the flat screen TV in Ari’s office early in the episode?  Could that be a Max Payne trailer?  Hmmm…

Do you see potentially awesome storylines if Ari accepts the new job?  Or do you think he should decline the offer?
