Trailer Comparison: ‘Ghost Rider’ vs ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’

Wow. The trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance contains a lot of chain whip cracking, a lot of skulls on fire, and that wacky flaming vomit/urine combination that got Fure so hot under the collar.

Considering the history of the movie and the weight of the first film’s failure that Vengeance carries around its neck, it’s probably a great idea to watch both trailers side by side to see what each production was going for.

And whether they achieved it:

Spirit of Vengeance:

Ghost Rider Classic:

Naturally, the original’s trailer features more of the story and more kissing Eva Mendes, but watching it makes you realize how sparse the Vengeance teaser is. That, of course, is the name of the game, but is a full minute of snippets from the best fight scenes enough to lose the bad taste of the first film?

And then Neveldine and Taylor show up right at the end with their insanity and bodily fluids. Without those sequences, the action seemed like it could have been shot by anyone. Not that it’s bad, it’s actually fairly thrilling, but there was no signature on the movie until Johnny Blaze pissed it into the wind.

What do you think?
