Revenge, so they say, is a dish best served cold. Only, that’s not always true. Sometimes revenge, like a fine steak tartar, must be served fresh. And sometimes it must be served literally.

A taut thriller that unfurls slowly into horror, Dog Food comes from writer-director Brian Crano and stars Cory Michael Smith (Gotham) as a butcher who loses his dog but finds a beautiful woman (Amanda Seyfried, Twin Peaks: The Return) who invites him for a gourmet dinner at her place with her and a friend (David Craig, The Gift). As you might suspect, though, things aren’t quite what they seem. But there’s more than one twist in Dog Food, so even if you think you know where things are going, I assure you you do not.

This short is a few years old, but I’m bringing it out now because Crano just premiered a feature film a couple months ago at the Tribeca Film Festival, Permission, a sexy comedy starring Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3) and Dan Stevens (Legion). Check out Dog Food, then keep your eyes peeled for Permission.

By the way, this short film is rated Mature, so don’t watch it with your kids around. Or your dog, probably.
