Sword fights are the touchdowns of movies and this is the highlight reel.
Nothing beats a good sword fight in a film. Gun battles are hard to shoot in a way that isn’t ridiculous (think Stormtroopers’ accuracy) or overwhelming. They come down to how a scene makes you feel as a whole, either scared of the sheer chaos or tense because of a single sniper.
Swords are different because swords are much more personal. A swordfighter’s style is a piece of characterization. These fights use their choreography to tell a story as much as the camera placement and editing. This is why they excite us and spark our imaginations.
Kevin McKee’s supercut combines the jabs, parries, and swipes that birthed swashbuckling dreams within every stick-wielding child.
