Why Watch? A Confiavel, or The Reliable, doesn’t shout it’s message. It rarely even raises its voice. Instead, through bitterly calm narration, it floats through a series of personal portraits of people and street life as well as filmed sequences that share a story about noise, dirt and Brazilian politics.
The overall result feels a lot like some of the cracked concrete walls that find themselves captured in photos – rough around the edges with a rawness inherent to the subject at hand. It’s quiet, but incredibly compelling with image after image that might hang at a prestigious back-alley art show.
