Rogue One’s Missing Pieces: 46 Shots That Didn’t Make the Final Cut

You saw them in trailers, but where did those scenes go? Right here.

Without a doubt, the most-talked-about news from behind the scenes of Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One were the reshoots ordered last summer, which were supposedly done to alter the overall tone of the film. Initially, fans of the franchise freaked out, fearing this order was proof their beloved space saga was being irreparably damaged in some way by the spinoff. Fortunately for all of us, the naysayers were wrong, whatever reshoots they did worked, and the film is now a grade-A, bona fide, official critical and commercial hit.

However, when people started filing out of theaters this past weekend, they were left with a lot of images in their heads from scenes they’d seen in various teasers, trailers, and TV spots that didn’t make it into the final product. The victims of reshoots and recuts, these images and scenes were good enough for the promo material when it was being put together several months ago, but once the film was restructured, they had to be excised.

Fear not, though, because the vigilant eye of editor Vashi Nedomansky spotted – or rather, didn’t spot – 46 such clips and has sewn them together cinematically into the following video with the very direct title, “Rogue One: 46 Shots Not in the Final Film.”

Jyn Erso’s “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel” line, the image of Krennic standing center screen with his head bowed and blaster in-hand, Jyn in the tunnel (see above), Jyn walking down a floating catwalk to face off with a TIE fighter, and tons of battle footage – you remember it all though you never saw it on the big screen. Complete your Rogue One experience by clicking play, and try not to worry so much that you got sold on a film using images that aren’t actually in the film. It’s probably not an emerging trend. Probably.
