After ripping your face right off your head in There Will Be Blood, Paul Dano returned squarely back into indie kid roles in Where the Wild Things Are, Taking Woodstock, and the (incredibly, super, enormously well-loved) Gigantic this year. And it looks like he’s sticking with those guns.
According to Variety, Dano has just signed on to the independently financed drama For Ellen. They describe it as the story of:
…a struggling indie rocker who, after nearly wrecking his car during an overnight long-distance drive, arrives in a small Midwestern town to deal with his impending divorce.”
So he’s saddling up to be an indie musician in an indie movie that I have to believe is shooting in Indianapolis.
Or, more likely, Saddlecreek hometown Omaha, Nebraska. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a cameo by Jenny Lewis.
As you may know, Dano is well-versed for a role like this because he plays guitar and sings lead in the fantastic band Mook – that has a sort of stripped down pop feel (with a little jazz mixed in for good measure). They might as well score the film, right?
