Party Like It’s 1939: ‘The Wizard of Oz’ Back in Theaters

By  · Published on August 20th, 2009

Since I wasn’t alive in 1939, I never got a chance to see one of my favorite movies on the big screen, and for whatever reason, I haven’t been in the same room at the same time with a print (or I would have stolen it). That’s right. I just committed thought-crime. But it was worth it.

I’ve loved this movie since I can remember, and the opportunity to celebrate The Wizard of Oz’s 70th anniversary by seeing an HD presentation of it in theaters sounds better than fried chicken on Sunday.

Would I rather see an original print? Of course. But I’ll take what I can get, and I think checking it out in HD could also be a pretty unique experience – especially for a film so vibrant. It’ll be playing in 440 locations around the U.S. on Wednesday, September 23rd so that’s not too shabby. You have to enter your zip code to find out if it’s coming to a theater near you, but there are more than a few cinemas in Austin that are hosting it.

Go to this site to find ticket information and secure your seat.

Here’s your chance to see a classic in a completely new way, and if you haven’t seen it, it’s high time that you scratched it off your Shame List in HD.
