The world has a severe shortage of film adaptations for “The Three Musketeers.” To date, there are only twenty or thirty thousand of them. Fortunately, Bourne Identity director Doug Liman might play a pivotal role in righting that wrong.
According to the Heat Vision Blog, Liman is sitting down across the table from Warners to strike a deal to direct a new Three Musketeers. In 3D, naturally.
If you’re cocking an eyebrow and vaguely remembering some Musketeer-y news from last fall involving Paul W. S. Anderson, you’re still correct. It’s two separate films. Both Warners and spry young upstart Summit both recognized the noticeable lack of Musketeer movies and are both chipping in to help.
Consider it a 17th century French version of the battle between Armageddon and Deep Impact. Let’s hope the studios take this literally and cast Bruce Willis as Porthos in both flicks.
However, it’s entirely possible I’ve misunderstood the news, and this is actually a story about a candy bar adaptation.
