Interview: Jean-Pierre Jeunet Talks ‘Micmacs’

Earlier this year at SXSW, I had the good fortune of sitting down with visionary French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet the morning of the Austin premiere of his latest film, Micmacs. Since then, I’ve been holding on to the 13-minute interview waiting for the right time. And with Micmacs finally making its way into theaters this month (it opens in Austin and several other cities this weekend), now is certainly the time.

As our own Landon Palmer wrote from SXSW, “Micmacs is truly cinema-specific. The experience of seeing it cannot be paralleled within any other medium, and one gets a sense throughout that Jeunet is working purely within his element here. He possesses a magnificently detailed vision, and I can’t stress enough how fun it is to watch those details at play onscreen.”

In the following video interview, I talk to Jeunet about the film, his process and his experiences making films on both sides of the pond. It’s more than worth 13-minutes of your time, just as his movie is more than worth two hours of your time.

Micmacs is currently in limited (but expanding) release. For information about when and where it’s playing, head on over to the Official Website.
