Kyle Ward can add another project to his ‘In Development’ pile. After writing Kane and Lynch for Lionsgate (a drama featuring Bruce Willis) and Fiasco Heights for Universal, he’s also going to be writing the sequel to Hitman that is inventively titled Hitman 2.
According to Variety, the bare bones of the story feature Agent 47 starting up from a dark place mentally and career-wise in order to regain his reputation as the best assassin on the planet.
As a reminder, the original film was basically a box office failure, although it turned a profit, written by Skip Woods (the guy who wrote Swordfish and X-Men Origins: Wolverine). So…it’s tough to understand what would propel Fox to attack this one head on. Since it’s in the beginning stages, there’s no information on whether Timothy Olyphant would be back on board (or if Fox would want him), but we’ll keep an eye on it just in case something interesting develops.
Most likely, what will develop is another fairly average action flick. Although, who knows what this new writer could do. Maybe he’s just the spark that this project needs to get some life.
What do you think? Did you like Hitman enough to care to want to see a sequel?
