Hailee Steinfeld Joins ‘Term Life,’ Will Help Transform Vince Vaugn into an Action Hero

The terms “Vince Vaughn” and “action thriller” don’t exactly gel, but expect that to change in the near future. The Wrap reports that the Vaughn-starring action thriller Term Life (nope, still doesn’t sound right) has just added another name to its cast- Hailee Steinfeld.

Term Life is based off a graphic novel of the same name by A.J. Lieberman (who’s also written the screenplay) and Nick Thornborrow. It follows Nick Barrow (Vaughn), a heist mastermind who’s marked for death by all manner of criminals- mobsters, crooked cops and hit men- and takes out a life insurance policy on himself to benefit his daughter (Steinfeld). But the policy doesn’t go into effect for 21 days, meaning Nick’s got to stay alive just long enough for the insurance to kick in.

Having already starred in True Grit, Steinfeld has proved more than capable of playing a young woman forced to shepherd an unreliable, occasionally-incompetent hero through his hero’s journey. It’s likely she’ll be doing the exact same thing here. And who knows? Maybe she can give Vaughn a few tips on how to appear more menacing while holding a gun. Although, with Peter Billingsley directing the film (last seen directing Vaughn in Couple’s Retreat), this might be far closer to Vaughn’s crass comedy comfort zone than it appears to be.
