Guillermo Del Toro Will Make Audiences ‘Afraid of the Dark’ in January 2011

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any movement on this, but horror and Del Toro fans should rejoice with the news that Miramax’s remake of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark has gotten a release date of its very own. And, unlike every superhero property out there, it’s a release that’s within the next 8 months. Mark your calendar and be ready to ring in the new year with some strange visitors that live in your basement.

According to Heat Vision, the directorial debut of Troy Nixey being produced by Del Toro hits theaters on January 21, 2001, facing stiff competition from the start of Sundance and a movie where a guy sues the devil (and Malcolm McDowell plays the devil).

The retread features Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, and a bunch of creatures who want to kill all of them.

In celebration of the news, check out this trailer for the original, and imagine Katie Holmes’s face on Kim Darby’s body.

Hooray!
