Fantastic New Pics of Wes Anderson’s ‘Mr. Fox’

Our friends over at /film can read French. In fact, they flaunt it in our face every time we meet up at junkets and conventions, ordering exotic foods like French toast and putting accents on everything in sight. It’s a skill that’s paid off, because they caught wind of a French film site with two solid pictures from Wes Anderson’s upcoming Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Since my ability to read Aramaic has never paid off, I may start looking into learning a different language.

We’ve been keeping tabs on this project ever since we labeled it one of the 25 Most Anticipated of 2009, and for good reason. Not only is it a Roald Dahl adaptation (think Willy Wonka and James and the Giant Peach), but it’s Anderson working with a cast of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Anjelica Huston, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Willem Dafoe. And did I mention that Noah Baumbach co-wrote the script?

So much to get excited about. Here’s something else:

I’m digging the look, although I’m having trouble figuring out where on the scale between reality and cartoonishness it’s landing. It’s always hard to tell without seeing the images in motion, but it looks like the style they are going for is one of realism (as much as you can be with talking foxes). Should be interesting to see how this translates to film.

There’s also a rumor floating around that a trailer for the flick will play on July 29th, attached to Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Threequel, giving you a reason to finally want to see that movie. I’m sure it’ll be on the internet before then, though. So no worries.

What do you think?
