Bill Plympton is just the best. His animation style is immediately recognizable, and his movies are always both idiosyncratic and deeply human. The cherry on top, of course, is the wicked sense of humor. I daydream sometimes about him and Christopher Moore teaming up for, you know, anything.
He crowdfunded his last movie, Cheatin’, and he’s doing it again with his new project – a collaboration with artist Jim Lujan called Revengeance.
Revengeance tells the story of a low-rent bounty hunter (named Rod Rosse, The One Man Posse) who gets entangled in a web of seedy danger when he takes on a job from an ex-biker/ex-wrestler turned U.S. senator named “Deathface.” Rod has to find what was stolen from the senator and find the girl who stole it. Soon, Rosse finds there’s more than meets the eye to this dirty job. Between the ruthless biker gangs, the blood thirsty cults, and the crooked cops – Rod Rosse is a marked man. If the bullets don’t kill him – the California sun just might!
The thing about a synopsis for a Plympton project is that you never know quite what the end result will be regardless of how detailed he gets. There’s a sense of surprise inherent in his work – stories that travel in odd and delightful directions.
The Kickstarter campaign has less than two days to go, and they could still use some funding. For Plympton fans, this is a bit of a no-brainer, and for those who have yet to discover his work, this is an excellent opportunity to see if it’s for you.

Lujan and Plympton’s skills should complement each other well. It’s a little sad to see that Plympton will now become a permanent fixture of the crowdfunding world, but I get it. His work isn’t for everyone, and I imagine he’s struggled to prove the market value of his visions, so if this is the space that will support him, so be it.
At any rate, it looks like another fun one.
