Be Sold On the Betamax VCR 35 Years Later

Pop quiz hot shot. Let’s say your favorite television show (probably “The Twilight Zone) is on tonight, but you have to go walk the stupid dogs to the stupid park because your stupid mom, who has no appreciation for fine science fiction television, wants you to. What are you going to do?

You’re going to control time, with the Betamax VCR.

For the 35th anniversary of the Sony Betamax, introduced on this day in 1975, we proudly present a promotional video for the very first model.

You still haven’t arrived at the limits of the Betamax’s capabilities:

Remember folks, it’s only purpose is to serve you.

Now you can leave home confident that you won’t miss your favorite shows! You’ll never be deprived of watching whatever program you desire at your convenience! You’ll be free of the restrictions of time!

If you still aren’t a fan, maybe you’ll find our list of VHS tapes to rent or buy from 1980 more agreeable.

It’s not the anniversary of the VCR – an invention that’s been around since the 1950s, but this is the anniversary of the first Betamax being made available, and that (or a strong breeze) is reason enough to create a holiday. Especially since, here at FSR, we’ll be playing every Betamax drinking game we know. After we finish with that game, we’ll be playing drunken lawn darts.

Are you going to rush right out and buy one?
