Amy Adams Squares Up to ‘The Fighter’

It’s really a shame that Neil is out of town and won’t be able to write up this particular news story since he has a major, major crush on Amy Adams. Fortunately, after seeing her in tight tan pants in Night at the Museum 2, I can go ahead and carry that torch for the FSR family.

According to /film, the actress is in the final stages of talks to star alongside Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg in The Fighter – David O. Russell’s (director of Three Kings and I ❤ Huckabees) picture looking at the life of boxer Micky Ward.

Just last week, Christian Bale described the film as:

A true story of two incredibly gifted boxers who were half-brothers. The one, Dicky Eklund, who fought Sugar Ray Leonard at a very young age, when he was twenty one, was an incredible natural talent. He lived a very hard life. Then he came to train his brother, Irish Micky Ward, to the world title.”

It looks like Adams will be playing a bartender that gets romantically involved with Ward (Wahlberg’s character). No word yet on whether she’ll be channeling Katherine Hepburn again for the role.

Some fun facts about the production:

  • Melissa Leo is also involved, which is pretty awesome.
  • The screenplay was written by Paul Attanasio (who wrote Quiz Show and is a producer on “House”) and Lewis Colick (who wrote October Sky and Ladder 49)
  • Despite having Mark Wahlberg, will probably not be about killer trees

So, as you can tell, the project has some major talent and Mark Wahlberg lined up as well as some pretty serious writers (especially considering the true-fiction experience) for what looks like a really great story. Maybe a blend of Rocky and Cinderella Man. Of course, it would always run into the trouble of being too like those films. It’s early yet, so we’ll have to see how it comes along.

What do you think? Interested in seeing Russell take on a boxing biopic?
