‘Airplane!’ Star Dead at 83

The world has lost yet another film icon as Peter Graves died Sunday of natural causes.

The man who worked on such diverse projects as Sergeant Ryker and Airplane! delivered a large body of work (hundreds of television shows and films) to be poured over. Many fans will remember him from the “Mission: Impossible” television series, or as the host of A&E’s biography, but I will always remember him as Price from Stalag 17. The character is equal parts charming and intense, a difficult role to play by any measure, and Graves shows a peerless depth of talent in it.

He will be missed, but we all have our copies of Airplane! to toss in and hear Captain Clarence Oveur ask us (and Joey) if we like movies about gladiators. From comedy to drama, the man did it all.
