Your Best Friends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are Playing Sisters in ‘The Nest’

It’s a line delivered straight out of your lady dreams, and it’s blissfully true. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Saturday Night Live alums, former Weekend Update co-anchors, two-time Golden Globes co-hosts, occasional movie co-stars and your best friends in your mind probably are teaming up again for something new. According to Deadline, they are taking their twosome to the next level by portraying sisters (it’s the natural progression in the friendship level) in The Nest, a feature from SNL writer and all-around funny person Paula Pell.

The Nest focuses on the two 30-something siblings as they take a weekend to visit their parents, only to find out that their childhood home is being sold. They take the opportunity to have one last crazy weekend together there, bonding and feuding the way that only sisters do. Eventually, of course, they’ll wind up coming to their senses when the weekend is over and do some growing up together too – with no childhood home to come back to, it’s time to be real life adults.

What this really means, though, is that Fey and Poehler are (hopefully, fingers crossed) getting their own version of Step Brothers. The brilliant 2008 comedy from Adam McKay and Will Ferrell starred Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two 40-something slackers whose parents marry, forcing them to move in together and become brothers. Obviously, they’re both idiots, and as idiots with shared interests they become best friends and all-around nightmares as a dual force. The film was a hit (and honestly it’s still a little bit of a sore spot that Step Brothers 2 got canned for the mediocre Anchorman 2), because there’s really nothing better than seeing Ferrell and Reilly wearing twin tuxedos and also threatening to beat the hell out of each other with bars of soap.

With a script from a terribly funny writer such as Pell (her first screenplay), there’s potential for Fey and Poehler to slide into these roles, no problem. Let’s assume that if they’re siblings returning home under the guise of bonding and growing together, they initially hate each other. Fey’s probably the uptight, responsible one who always plays by the rules, right? Poehler is more of the freewheeling, fun loving sister who gets drunk a little too often and made Fey pick up the pieces when they were younger. But by being home together – their last hurrah in their old stomping grounds – they have the chance to cut loose and do all of the stupid stuff together they never got to do as teens.

However, they probably won’t go full stupid like Ferrell and Reilly do in Step Brothers, seeing as their characters already have the advantage of being adults who have left the nest (oh!), but being back in their old habitat will surely bring out the best/worst in both and lead them to revert to their dumbest and wildest selves.

So which one of them is going to eat dog poop?
