The Mystery Team Gets Haunted, Finds Release Dates

By  · Published on August 10th, 2009

The fine kids of the Derrick Comedy crew have released a brand new short film – which may look familiar to Comic-Con attendees, as it was shown there – in which the Mystery Team solves the “Case of the Haunted Hotel.” As Con attendees will also note, this short film is a little ridiculous and a lot funny. It brings together stars Donald Glover, DC Pierson and Dominic Dierkes as three childhood gumshoes who just can’t grow out of their boyhood ways. Just like the feature length Mystery Team movie, the short delivers dark, super-smart humor that is unlike anything else you’re seeing from Hollywood these days. Check out the short for yourself below.

As for the film Mystery Team, you probably already know the story. One of the best comedies of the year, hands down – and a movie that represents the true heart and soul of independent filmmaking, a self-financed work that is as closed to a fully realized creative vision as you might see all year. That, and it is a fucking blast. Note the emphasis that I placed on the word ‘blast’ with the use of a curse word. It’s that good. Which is why we here at Reject HQ are extremely excited about the film’s premiere on August 27th, which will take place here in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse. More details about that can be found at OriginalAlamo.com.

The official Derrick site has also released dates for their promotional tour, which hits college towns across the midwest before opening nationwide in October. If you live in one of these cities and you don’t catch Mystery Team on its opening weekend, you’re really missing out. For our neighbors in Austin, tickets go on sale for the premiere event on August 14th.
