Dance Yourself Clean: An End-of-the-Year Celebration Montage

By  · Published on December 30th, 2016

Say goodbye to 2016 with this swinging 90s montage.

12 months, 52 weeks, and as of press time, 365 days (remember this is a leap year). 2016 is all but out the door and I don’t think there’s anyone here who’s hoping the old son of a bitch will stick around a little longer. The losses physical and emotional, the social unrest and turmoil, the tan-colored storm cloud hanging over us, and all the other shitty stuff that came with this year will hopefully go with it as well and 2017 will be a clean slate, a chance to start over, do better, and maybe even accomplish something productive.

It’s a promise we make ourselves this time each and every year – next year will be better than the last – and in this particular instance, I don’t think we could do worse if we actively tried. By that point, then, the end of 2016 and the birth of 2017 is absolutely cause for celebration, so this weekend I want everyone to get out and party like it’s the end of the world (in case it actually is). To help, I’ve found the swingingest dance compilation I could, and it’s 90s-themed, so not only do you have the nostalgic groove of Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” to get your toes tapping, the montage of 90s movies that accompanies it will fill you with memories of a much simpler, much more pleasant era when the only thing we had to worry about in regards to our President was all the sex he was having on the job.

Robert Jones is your editor, and 86 films made the final cut. Can you identify them all? Who cares? Not the point. The point is to crank your speakers as loud as they go, press play, then dance your fool-head around the room until all your 2016 blues drop to the floor like a shed skin. A new year starts this weekend and we all have a responsibility to make sure it looks absolutely nothing like this trainwreck we just walked away from. Let’s start by giving a proper send off to the year behind us.

Adios, 2016, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.
