The Babysitter trailer isn’t F#@%ing around.
Sometimes a trailer comes along and reveals too much about the movie. I enjoyed It but I would have had a better time watching the film if the best scares weren’t revealed during its marketing blitz. Then there are trailers that sell you on films you weren’t going to watch; visceral treats that leave you counting down the days until the movie hits theaters. The trailer for Netflix’s upcoming shocktober delight, The Babysitter, checks both those boxes.
The Babysitter’s director, McG, is known for his bombastic style. He’s directed over-the-top films like Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation so The Babysitter’s horror/comedy vibe fits right in his wheelhouse. The trailer can best be described as a two-minute dose of WTF?! It features cursing kids, a shot-up boob, and wounds that spew blood with the force of a garden hose. If that description sounds appealing then don’t watch this trailer; go ahead and add The Babysitter to your Netflix queue. If you’re still on the fence, you better buckle up.

When Cole stays up past his bedtime, he discovers that his hot babysitter is part of a satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet.
The trailer features plenty of recognizable faces including Samara Weaving (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Judah Lewis (Demolition), Hana Mae Lee (Pitch Perfect), and Robbie Amell (The Flash). We even catch a fleeting glimpse of Ken Marino!
The Babysitter looks camp-tastic in the best kind of way; a playful send-up of schlocky 80’s horror flicks — even the movie’s poster feels like a spot-on throwback. The Babysitter revels in slasher-flick tropes, gleefully depicting excessive gore, foul language, and sexy bodies. You can bet McG will mine laughs from killing off his beautiful cast in creative ways.
Unlike the cheesy movies The Babysitter is riffing on, the film looks polished. Everything from the lighting and color grading down to the song “Tainted Love” playing over the trailer gives the movie a slick and glossy look. Solely based on watching this trailer, The Babysitter has earned a spot on my annual fall horror movie binge list.
The Babysitter comes to Netflix on October 13.
