Right at the end of their Comic-Con panel – just after Captain America: The Winter Soldier topped Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy topped them both – Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige brought out a familiar face for a brief, special announcement. When Joss Whedon took the stage, the buzz around the room and all over Twitter was electric. Marvel had saved something for last. As it turns out, it was a teaser that showed Iron Man’s helmet morphing into that of Ultron, revealing the title for the planned Avengers sequel: Avengers: Age of Ultron is due in 2015.

For those who do not know, Ultron, a criminally insane rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity. He’s a character that debuted in the late 1960s and has long had ties to Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man. The title “Age of Ultron” seems like it could be taken from a 10-issue series of the same name published by Marvel Comics earlier this year, one that saw Ultron decimate cities and ultimately take over the Earth. Of course, there are far more details to be learned about this villain and a great deal of nuance to be hashed out before he hits the big screen in 2015.
