X-Files 2 Movie Poster and Bootleg Trailer — Mulder and Scully are Back!

Mulder and Scully from The X-Files

For some reason, I was not shocked to learn that the big draw at this year’s WonderCon event was the panel for X-Files 2. While not a fan of the series myself, I am aware of its surprising cult following. There are people out there who are as excited about seeing Mulder and Scully back on a screen of any size as I was the first time Optimus Prime stood tall in Michael Bay’s Transformers. Therefore, out of respect to our readers who know that the truth is out there, we are going to get all over this movie in a hurry.

We begin with a newly released (as in, within the last hour or so) poster for the film that shows Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) playing shadow puppets in a very cool way. Get it? It’s an X.

I must admit, even I can appreciate how the marketers of this film are playing on the lore of Mulder and Scully — they know that fans have been itching to see these two together again and they are going to squeeze that excitement for everything it is worth. Now, we move on to a second bootleg trailer, which was taken from Paleyfest in Hollywood last night, where writer/director Chris Carter premiered it in front of an adoring crowd.

Also on hand was writer Frank Sponitz, who fed the fire a bit by explaining some of the story:

“While this is not a mythology movie, it’s true to everything that’s come before,” Spotnitz said at the William S. Paley Television Festival. “It’s true to Mulder and Scully, who they are and where they would be this point in their lives and all of the experiences that they’ve had.”

If you are a huge X-Files fan, now would be the time when it is ok to freak out and get all excited. Don’t expect me to join you, but go on and get down with your bad self. Personally, I am interested to see the film, as I did enjoy the first one, but don’t expect me to run out and see Iron Man on opening weekend just to see the X-Files 2 trailer on the big screen when it makes its debut. Oh wait, I think I am going to do that anyway.

Hopefully by then they will have a name for the damn thing. When asked about the name, Carter commented, “I can’t tell you. I know what I want it to be, but Fox has some ideas of their own.”

The Untitled X-Files Sequel is currently scheduled for release on July 25th.
