Although not just anyone can be a successful filmmaker, if there’s one thing that Samsung’s “SOS Island: Survival of the Smartest” live streaming survival and social media competition has illustrated, it’s that good technology sure can help. The premise: 16 contestants from all around the globe are stranded on a desert island, trained in basic survival skills by famed survival expert Les Stroud, and then left to their own devices to show off (both on the island and on social media) what they learned. Now, with just 8 finalists remaining and Stroud no longer on hand to help start fires or find fresh water, each player must take on survival challenges, and try to win you over via their social media updates or cool Vine videos. Thanks to the Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom and the Galaxy NX (the first interchangeable-lens camera with 3G/4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity), they can shoot, Tweet, Instagram, and post their experiences.
It’s up to you to help decide who is worthy of the $100,000 grand prize, which will be used toward his or her own private island.
