From a Spielberg epic to a Charlie’s Angels reboot, the Marvel stars have some exciting projects lined up.

To call Black Panther a massive success is an understatement. It shattered box office expectations, received a coveted ‘A+’ CinemaScore grade, and is one of the most well-reviewed superhero films ever. It also showcased some major talent on screen, from high-profile seasoned actors to new breakout stars. Fans who are eager to see more from the cast have reason to rejoice — we won’t have to wait long for some intriguing future projects featuring the Marvel stars.

As is to be expected, many of the characters from Black Panther will be returning to the fictional country of Wakanda for Marvel’s next film, Avengers: Infinity War. Chadwick Boseman will return as the Black Panther himself, T’Challa. Joining him will be Danai Gurira as Okoye, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda.

Gurira is known to Walking Dead fans as Michonne, and there is currently speculation over the impact her involvement with the Marvel Cinematic Universe could have on her part in the AMC TV series. Other Marvel stars do TV while still being part of the film franchise, so as of right now there’s no reason to think Gurira would not be able to work on both.

On the subject of TV, Sterling K. Brown, who had a small but significant role as N’Jobu in Black Panther, can currently be seen in the second season of This Is Us. Brown has won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a handful of other awards for his role on the show. On the big screen, he will be seen in Hotel Artemis, an upcoming thriller from director Drew Pearce, who previously wrote Iron Man 3. The film co-stars Jodie Foster and fellow Marvel alum, Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista. Brown will also star in the fourth installment of the Predator franchise, director Shane Black’s The Predator. The film co-stars Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn and is set for release September 14, 2018.

Brown isn’t the only one going from the superhero film to another popular franchise. Angela Bassett, who portrayed T’Challa’s mother Ramonda, will act alongside Tom Cruise in the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The film is the sixth in the franchise and will be released July 27, 2018. Bassett currently stars in the TV series 9-1-1 from creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear.

Daniel Kaluuya, who is an Oscar nominee for Get Out, starred as W’Kabi in Black Panther. He will be seen later this year in Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated heist film, Widows. The film is adapted from a British TV series of the same name and is written by Gillian Flynn, who wrote “Gone Girl” and adapted it into a screenplay for the 2014 David Fincher film. He will also lend his voice to an animated TV mini-series adaptation of Richard Adams’ novel “Watership Down” that will be a co-production between Netflix and the BBC.

After portraying Nakia, a Wakandan spy, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has some exceptionally exciting projects ahead for fans to look forward to. She is rumored to be continuing her role as Maz Kanata in Star Wars: Episode IX, but this is unconfirmed. Last fall she was reported to be circling an upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot that will be directed by Elizabeth Banks and may co-star Kristen Stewart. Nyong’o will also be teaming up with Rihanna, writer Issa Rae, and director Ava Duvernay for a Netflix heist film that Twitter-inspired. This year, she will star alongside Josh Gad in the zombie horror/comedy Little Monsters from director Abe Forsythe.

Letitia Wright, who was a scene-stealer in her role as T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, will next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. She will have a supporting role in the film portraying the character Reb. There’s very little information about how involved her character will be in the film, but considering her performance in Black Panther, she’s sure to stand out in any scene she’s in. Wright was also recently seen in the season 4 finale of Black Mirror where she played Nish.

Following his outstanding performance as Black Panther villain Erik Killmonger, Michael B. Jordan has several upcoming projects to keep him busy. One of his next films will see him reteam with Ryan Coogler for the fourth time, following their collaborations on Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther. Their next film will be Wrong Answer, a movie based on the true story of Atlanta high school teachers who were part of the largest academic cheating scandal in US history in 2013. There’s no official word on Black Panther 2 or Coogler’s potential involvement in it, but we have some ideas about where the sequel could go.

Outside of his collaborations with Coogler, Jordan has been cast in an upcoming sci-fi TV series, Raising Dion, which he will also produce. He will team with Short Term 12 director Destin Daniel Cretton for Just Mercy, a film about the true story of world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson and the case of a death row prisoner he fought to free. Additionally, Jordan is reported to be working with MGM on a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair and is apparently being pursued to portray a young Morpheus in a Matrix prequel. He will also return to the role of Adonis Creed in Creed II, where Steven Caple Jr. will take over directing duties from Coogler. On the small screen, Jordan will star opposite Michael Shannon in an HBO adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” from 99 Homes director Ramin Bahrani.

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, who portrayed Zuri, an advisor to T’Challa, has several films lined up. He will be in the thriller The Poison Rose, the heist film Finding Steve McQueen, as well as director Brad Furman’s LAbyrinth, a film about the investigations into the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG, and a Netflix original film set for release on July 27, 2018, How It Ends. He will also appear in the upcoming film A Fall From Grace, a thriller from director Jennifer Lynch. Additionally, Whitaker had two films at Sundance this year: Sorry to Bother You, which he produced, and Burden, which he starred in.

Andy Serkis, who portrays Ulysses Klaue in the MCU but is known best for his motion capture performances in films such The Lord of the Rings and The Planet of the Apes, also has a number of films ahead of him. He will direct and star in Mowgli, a live-action film based on The Jungle Book that will be released October 19, 2018. Serkis will also be seen in Flarsky, a Seth Rogen comedy set for release in 2019.

Martin Freeman, who starred as Everett Ross in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, will not be returning for the third Avengers film. But Freeman has confirmed Ross will return in future MCU films. In the meantime, Freeman will be seen in Ode to Joy, a comedy from director Jason Winer who previously worked on TV’s New Girl and Modern Family.

Chadwick Boseman and Winston Duke are the two Black Panther stars with no upcoming projects outside of the MCU, but fans can look forward to seeing them return to the big screen when Avengers: Infinity War is released May 4, 2018.

Anna Swanson: Anna Swanson is a Senior Contributor who hails from Toronto. She can usually be found at the nearest rep screening of a Brian De Palma film.
