As we get ready for South by Southwest, we’re celebrating Texas.
The month of March is many things dependent upon your interests. It could be known for March Madness, the annual NCAA college basketball tournament. It’s also Women’s History Month, for those who aren’t celebrating women all year-round. But for many in the spheres of entertainment, technology, music, and comedy, March is home to one of the United States’ most prominent cultural festivals: South by Southwest.
Taking place in Austin, TX, SXSW brings together luminaries from numerous industries for a week of film screenings, conference events, food truck excursions, and plenty of live music. Long time readers of FSR will note that we’re entering our 10th year covering SXSW’s film festival. It’s where we first discovered Matthew Vaughan’s Kick-Ass and Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods, among many others. This year we’re returning to SXSW for more film and culture, but mostly smoked meats.
Before we get to SXSW at the end of the week, we’re going to take a moment to stop and celebrate the great state of Texas and its long history of producing quality entertainment. From classics like Giant starring James Dean to Richard Linklater’s Slacker movement of the 90s, we’re going to explore many of the great Texas entertainment exports.
