Everybody’s always talking about THE SIMPSONS and their movie references, but there’s another long-running animated series that pulls just as often from the realm of cinema, usually in more scathing, sardonic, and frankly more hilarious contexts.

I am speaking of course of Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s SOUTH PARK, which has been on the air for 19 seasons and counting, and along the way has borrowed a slew of iconic scenes and imagery from our favorite movies. As editor Candice Drouet notes, Parker and Stone like to pull from horror in particular. To prove her point Drouet has crafted the following quick gem which presents scenes from SOUTH PARK intercut with scenes from the horror films they’re imitating. As usual, not only has Ms. Drouet picked an intriguing, entertaining topic, but her superior editing skills are once again on display, creating a kind of visual vortex that pulls you into her image-based narrative. This excellent stuff, spread it around.
