Uber Producer Buys One Way Ticket To Skull Island, Dino De Laurentis Dead At 91

Dino De Laurentis passed away yesterday at the age of 91. The man spent a lifetime in the movie business and will be remembered for different things by different people. Some will think of films like Serpico, Three Days Of the Condor, and Orca. Some will recall his association with Stephen King through films like Cat’s Eye, Silver Bullet, and Maximum Overdrive. Some might remember him as the man behind the best Hannibal Lecter movie, Manhunter. Still others will accuse our own Brian Salisbury of instigating his death with the publication of this column about Flash Gordon.

Most folks though will probably remember the cheese content on his resume including high profile stinkers like King Kong, Dune, and Body of Evidence. Me? I’ll always consider his most memorable production to be his granddaughter Giada. The best cleavage on the Food Network my friends. As well as a fantastic cook and host and stuff…

But we can all agree on one thing… Dino De Laurentis produced a ton of memorable films. Over 160 to be slightly more precise. He’s simply a legendary producer and an iconic member of Hollywood and the film world in general, and through good movies and bad it was his love of film that should and will be remembered.

What’s your favorite De Laurentis production?

Rob Hunter has been writing for Film School Rejects since before you were born, which is weird seeing as he's so damn young. He's our Chief Film Critic and Associate Editor and lists 'Broadcast News' as his favorite film of all time. Feel free to say hi if you see him on Twitter @FakeRobHunter.
