Twilight: Breaking Dawn Confirmed as Two Movies

Listen up, Twilighters, because I’m only going to say this once. Nikki Finke has confirmed that the final book in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, “Breaking Dawn,” will be broken into two films. These two films will be shot back-to-back, and they will be brought to life by “high end” directors. This makes sense, as Twilight: Eclipse is currently being finished up by a director I would consider “high end,” David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy).

As you know, the final book – the longest in Meyer’s series – is divided into three parts, each telling a story from the point of view of one of the main characters, Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner). As well, the final book deals with a lot of interesting issues – marriage, children, falling in love with children, eating children (so I’m told, but probably not), death, etc. – so it will be interesting to see who they hire to take on this story. I don’t want to make bold predictions, but I think David Slade might be the right guy for this final book. From what I understand (I’ve not read the final book, so feel free to correct me on this), the last episode of this series gets much closer to science fiction, horror and becomes increasingly disturbing. Exactly the sort of things that could (a) make this film series interesting and (b) scare the crap out of the fanbase. Though, (b) doesn’t seem like a viable option, as the fanbase has already experienced the weirdness of the final book, and they seem to love it. If anything, the final movie may actually broaden the franchise’s audience – guys like yours truly may dig it. Who knows…

At the very least, they should hire someone who will give us less Robert Pattinson… I’m just saying.
