Tracy Morgan and Juliette Binoche: Now There’s An Unlikely Pair

First Tracy Morgan saddles up with Bruce Willis and director Kevin Smith to make one of 2010’s early contenders for biggest disappointment of the year in Cop Out. Now he’s being cast in an ensemble cop drama alonside Juliette Binoche? From director Dito Montiel, of Fighting and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints fame? This is all very confusing.

The Hollywood Reporter would have us believe that it’s true, and not just an early attempt at April Fools hit-mongering. Son of No One will also star Channing Tatum, who will play “a young cop assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family.”

Get this – Al Pacino, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes are also in line to star. This movie is absolutely mind-boggling. For one, does the world really need another cop drama? That horse has been shot, beheaded and laid in the beds of too many a studio executive. Secondly, since when does A-list talent flock to the sets of a Dito Montiel movie, all rushing to star alongside Tracy Morgan and Channing Tatum? Even more interesting is the fact that Morgan will be stepping into a role recently vacated by Terrence Howard. He will play a friend of the main character’s. Binoche will play a reporter.

I can’t, for the life of me, begin to fathom what this project will look like. The talent involved is all over the board – from the very unserious Morgan to the screen-beef of Tatum to the very serious and legitimate dramatic talent of Pacino and Binoche. I hate to say it so early in the game, but I can’t wait to see what comes of all this.
