Into Every Movie a Little Tom Cruise Must Fall

By  · Published on February 10th, 2017

Your weekend starts with this absurdly entertaining mashup.

[SPOILERS for Vanilla Sky follow, but really that movie’s terrible, so I wouldn’t worry about reading on if you haven’t seen it.]

We’ve had some pretty heady posts go up this week, including a response to current events, an article about the infringement of intellectual property, and even one about math. But today’s Friday, and Friday posts are a little different. We’ve stimulated your intellect all week long, and now it’s time to engage other parts of your brain, and who better says brain stimulation than Tom Cruise? Now, if you’ll just hold on to this E-meter…

Just kidding, there’s nothing fun or engaging about Scientology (I said it, come at me) but the opposite is true of the following video featuring their poster boy Cruise. It comes from a mad genius called DrMachakil and it takes the scene that ends Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky ‐ which again is terrible; see the original, Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), instead ‐ in which Cruise takes a flying leap off a tall building and plummets towards the ground, only in DrMachakil’s video it isn’t the air he falls through, but rather other movies like (entire list below) Star Wars Episode Two: The Phantom Menace, Furious Seven, Con Air, and Jerry Maguire, where things get pretty metaphysical pretty fast.

Like Hell’s Club this mashup tells its own story through an assortment of tangentially-related clips, with Cruise in descent being the common thread stitching them together. Is it high-brow fodder for your intellect? No, of course not, but there’s plenty of that on our homepage and like vegetables, man can’t live on them alone. Take a few minutes to treat yourself to something that’s the intellectual equivalent of a deep-fried Twinkie: pointless but delicious.

That’s a compliment, by the way, I love deep-friend Twinkies. Happy weekend, film fans.

The movies used :
Vanilla Sky
MIB 3
Star Wars Episode II
The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers
Furious Seven
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Avengers
Jerry Maguire
Con Air
Mission : Impossible 3

The screams are from Vanilla Sky and the new Mummy trailer.
