Tim Burton Finds a Girl to Go Down the Rabbit Hole

Mia WasikowskaPlenty of names were thrown around about who would be Alice in Tim Burton’s live action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, maybe the most rumored being Evan Rachel Wood. (What, was Helena Bonham Carter busy? She’s in every other film Burton’s ever made.) But after Wood alleged withdrawal it looks like Burton now has his Alice, a much less celebrated but equally talented actress, Mia Wasikowska.

The Australian talent, who appeared on the series “All Saints” and HBO’s “In Treatment” is in final negotiations to land the highly contested role. She also will be playing a fan of Amelia Earheart fan in Amelia, starring the amazing Hilary Swank.

Alice in Wonderland is based on Linda Woolerton’s script, who is best known for The Lion King, and will feature performance capture footage, which will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D. Could we have another Beowulf on our hands? Couldn’t be any worse than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, right?

Wasikowska had better sign that contract quick. You never know when Johnny Depp will swoop in as a cross-dresser and steal a role. He’s done it before in Before Night Falls and Ed Wood, and surely he has some left over eyeliner from Pirates of the Caribbean. I put nothing past that magnificent bastard.
