‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D’ to Take on ‘Halloween 3D’ Come October 2012

There have been a lot of entries in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series at this point, some of them better than others. But at the very least they have all had some chainsaws and some killings. It’s easy in this day and age to complain about how there are no new ideas in the film world, and how everything is an adaptation, a sequel, a prequel, or a remake. I really wish that the voices of today would get more of a chance to create their own enduring icons for the future. That said, it’s pretty hard to argue about a movie called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D being made.

Lionsgate sent out a press release back in May confirming they are taking the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series into the realm of 3D with director John Luessenhop at the helm. He made 2010’s Takers, a movie that apparently existed but has been erased from my memory. Production on the new Massacre was scheduled to start this month, and now there is word that it will be ready for an October 5, 2012 release. This will give it a jump of a couple weeks on Dimension’s big Halloween release that month, Halloween 3D. I’m sure that diehard horror fans will be enthused enough to go and see both films, but the reaction of more casual audiences will be interesting to watch. Watching these two long-enduring franchises going head to head in the world of jacked up 3D prices will be an interesting indication of what kind of legs these modern horror icons have left. If given the choice of only one, who do you side with, Leatherface or Michael Meyers?
