The Newest Gilmore Girls Trailer Made Me Feel Many Emotions

By  · Published on November 21st, 2016

It’s not just Rory and Lorelai who are back. It’s all the feels.

Friends, we are mere days away from a trip back to Stars Hollow and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and I can hardly contain my excitement. With all four episodes premiering just five days from now on November 25th, Netflix has released a new trailer highlighting the wonderful, quick-witted, and iconic relationships between the dynamic Gilmore women: Emily, Lorelai, and Rory. Along with these three, come more familiar faces and places around Stars Hollow that just add to the hype.

Of course, there are some scenes that have been shown in previous trailers: Rory and Lorelai ordering enough food to feed a small village, quick looks at Rory’s lost loves, and a town meeting hosted by Taylor Doose (Michael Winters). Fans are also getting a first look at Rory’s arch nemesis turned friend Paris (Liza Weil), hometown and lifelong best friend Lane (Keiko Agena), and Lorelai and Rory’s eccentric neighbor Babette (Sally Struthers). There are also glimpses of Rory and Lorelai relaxing at a pool with two young boys as their umbrella holders, a classic Stars Hollow town fair, and Rory and Paris looking very professional while visiting their old high school Chilton. Some of the new scenes, however, really show how the Gilmore women’s lives are not as ideal as when we left them back in 2007.

Lorelai is trying to figure out what she wants in her relationship with Luke (Scott Patterson). “I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but lately things seem hazier,” she says at one point in the trailer before insisting that she and Luke are happy. Emily is trying to learn how to live without her husband Richard, the dearly departed Edward Hermann, which apparently means stepping out of her crisp skirt suits and into comfy jeans and t-shirts. And, Rory is that that stage of life that many of us find ourselves in: just wanting to figure things out. In addition to having no credit or job, this trailer also reveals the key plot point that Rory is missing her underwear. While searching for her lucky outfit, Lorelai sarcastically comments that any outfit Rory wears without underwear will be her lucky outfit.

With the tone of this new trailer, it seems like much of the new series will be devoted to these women figuring out who they are and what they really want in life. Babette is quick to point out the entire group of thirty-somethings back living in Stars Hollow with their parents, like Rory is. And, obviously, there will be references to the Gilmore girls’ love/addiction to coffee. “Everything in my life has something to do with coffee. I believe in another life, I was coffee!” Lorelai exclaims in her kitchen to Luke.

Fans of the series are eternally thankful to Netflix for reviving the series and eagerly await all the premiere of all four episodes this Friday, November 25th. Be sure to watch the newest trailer below and get excited for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
