Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in a musical that hopes to capture your imagination.

There are few multitalented actors in the business today like Hugh Jackman. He’s a true song and dance man in the same fold as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Not only can he act among the most talented in his field, but he has the voice and charisma to take him to the next level. He has been shepherding the project along since this was really a passion project for him. This story makes sense for Jackman since there really was no other choice to portray P.T. Barnum in a musical.

The Greatest Showman is an original musical that showcases the beginning of show business and shows how one man was able to create a spectacle no one had ever seen before. It features original music from the La La Land team and promises to be a big family film this holiday season.

Hugh Jackman will be making the leap from Wolverine to P.T. Barnum in the same year. Not too many of his peers can say they’ve saved the world and appeared in a musical. This trailer does a lot better job of setting the tone of the movie and letting audiences know that this is indeed a musical. While I’m certain that P.T. Barnum was never a Tony-nominated singer, but every story needs a little pizzazz and a story about circus performers and animals just wasn’t enough.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.

20th Century Fox is positioning The Greatest Showman as the Christmas movie everyone will have to see. It has a little bit of everything with Zac Efron, Lions, and trapeze performers. Joining Jackman and Efron is Michelle Williams, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson.

The Greatest Showman opens December 20th.
