‘The Gate’ in for a Wyld Remake

TheGateRemake

One of my favorite 80s kid-horror movies (yeah, I have more than one) is being remade by one of the co-stars of one of my favorite 80s bro-time travel movies. If you’re a super nerd like me, or just got the Wyld Stallyns reference in the title, you’ve probably figured out that The Gate is being remade with actor-director Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston, Esquire) at the helm. On top of that, it’s going to be in 3D! Could there be a downside?

Of course. The reported budget for this remake-in-waiting is only $1.2million, though it will be filmed overseas, so that’s not exactly a death knell. Part of the charm of the original was the puppetry and miniatures involved in bringing the little hell spawns to life. If you’re not familiar with The Gate, do yourself a favor and get a copy and just watch it. It’s still entertaining after all these years. If you need more convincing, it’s about a pair of youths (one played by Stephen Dorff!) who accidentally open a portal Gate to hell and unleash a bunch of demons who go about absolutely wrecking the place and assaulting the dog. If little monsters aren’t your thing, don’t worry – there’s a huge one too. This movie is a lot of fun and definitely worthy of a remake. Sounds good to me. The Gate will shoot later this summer. Hit up Bloody-Disgusting for more insight into the projects development.

How’s it sound to you?
