Any true movie nerd knows that Shane Black is the truth. There’s no reason to go through all of the reasons why at this very moment, but let’s name a few: Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad, Last Action Hero, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The man can write and direct the hell out of an action movie with both brutality and wit. Those are two qualities that come shining through in the first trailer for The Nice Guys.
The film, which is due out on May 20, stars Russell Crowe as a guy who roughs people up for a living in 1970s Los Angeles. Ryan Gosling plays a private investigator who at first is one of his victims, only to later become his accomplice in the investigation of a missing girl. Kim Basinger is in there. American Horror Story’s Matt Bomer is hanging around. The cast is great and the style is on point.
