Tangled Trailer: Rapunzel’s Got a Brand New Bag

Walt Disney Pictures has released the first trailer for their upcoming animated film Tangled, which tells the story of Rapunzel and her absurdly long hair. According to the studio, this is an action-packed, swashbuckling, animated musical comedy. Which won’t be so bad, assuming Chuck star Zachary Levi can sing.

Levi voices a dashing bandit who comes across the feisty blonde damsel Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore), only to set her off on a hilarious, “hair-raising” (that’s supposed to be punny) adventure to find out why she was stolen from her parents’ castle as a baby and locked away in a tower.

The film is directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno. Howard co-directed the underrated Disney animated flick Bolt, while Greno is known for his writing credit on Meet the Robinsons. Tangled certainly has its classical roots, but it also appears to be trying to skew both contemporary and teen. It’s not the worst direction to take the property. I don’t think anyone’s going to be offended by a teen-friendly update. If it’s half the adventure movie of Bolt and half the heart of Meet the Robinsons, it should turn out just fine.

The new trailer is below. Tangled is in theaters November 24, 2010.
