Are you ready to behold one of the best trailers of the year? I figured you might be interested in that. Since it was announced that Johnny Depp would be starring in an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeny Todd directed by Tim Burton, I have been incredibly interested. But up until right now, this Christmas release has been shrouded in secrecy, with only a mere poster and a few production stills to wet our collective appetite for music, mayhem and murder.
With that said, I am proud to drop a little teaser trailer on you, as Yahoo Movies has gotten their hands on it before anyone else. It will run in front of the Ben Stiller comedy The Heartbreak Kid this weekend, and Paramount told us that it wouldn’t be online until Monday. Oh well, we are impatient when it comes to movies like this. Take a look for yourself below.
For my money, this is Depp’s most exciting role since he introduced the world to Captain Jack Sparrow back in 2003. It also reunites him with Tim Burton, completing a duo that has made some seriously creative flicks (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands). The trailer only scratches the surface of what could be to come, but it shows us enough of spooky Todd and his maniacal ways that it just may get a few people interested in this flick. It also, oddly enough, gives us a little peek into Johnny Depp’s singing in the film by way of a very creepy scene on the street. I have to say, if the rest of the film keeps going along these lines, I may have to reserve a spot in my yearly Top 10 list for a crazy barber and his meatpie making mistress.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street releases on December 21. It also stars Helena Bohnam Carter, Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron Cohen.
You can also catch the trailer in High Definition at Yahoo! Movies.
