Something’s Up in this Justice League Look, Alien: Covenant Gets New Images and Trailer Info, and Jerry Lewis is Pissed
The day’s big headlines in bite-size portions.
Entertainment Weekly debuted a new image from Zack Snyder’s Justice League film, along with a quote from Ezra Miller (The Flash) on his character’s place among the super friends. In the image, seen below, Flash, Batman (Ben Affleck), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) are gathered and staring with expressions of awe (Flash and WW) and contained ire (Batman) at something just out of and above frame. From these mixed reactions and the angle of their eyes, I’ll bet you dollars to donuts this is the scene where [SPOILER FOR Batman v Superman] old Supes returns from the great beyond. As for Miller’s quote, it’s pretty self-deprecating, though the other JL characters don’t make it out unscathed, either:
“Flash is Ringo Starr. He annoys everybody, but he doesn’t have any specific beef with anyone. Uncle Fish Curry [Aquaman] is very grumpy. Dad [Batman] gets grumpy too. (He’s had a long life of fighting crime.) Wonder Woman is very considerate, so even though she’s annoyed with the Flash, she’s still very compassionate.”
“Uncle Fish Curry” is the only thing I’m calling Aquaman from now on, though never to actor Jason Momoa’s handsomely-terrifying face. Justice League lands in theaters November 17th, 2017. No word on a trailer release as of yet, but the Super Bowl is coming up in about six weeks, so don’t be surprised if that’s the launch pad for a teaser.
While we’re here, though, EW got another exclusive pic today we thought you might like the see, one from Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant that features star Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). The big rumor surrounding the film is that Waterston is playing the mother of eventual franchise hero Ellen Ripley, and the more we see of her, the more that seems a likely truth. Check out the image…
See what I mean? The hair, the gray tank top, the steely determination mixed with fear in her eyes, the big freaking gun: all those scream Ripley.
Then there’s this image, which was released over at the film’s official Twitter and evokes some serious Aliens vibes. Dig it:
I don’t think anyone in the world would have a problem with Scott evolving the tone and atmosphere of Cameron’s chapter in the franchise. I love both these images because as many things as they reveal, the things they suggest are even more intriguing. I got a lot of questions about this flick, and presumably I won’t have to wait too long for an answer. BMD had the scoop that the first official trailer for Alien: Covenant is coming soon, and furthermore it’s going to be set to David Bowie’s cover of the old Nat King Cole chestnut “Nature Boy,” which was previously used in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge. I’ve included a video below so you can hear it.

Alien: Covenant co-stars Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, and now James Franco, who confirmed his involvement to HeyUGuys while promoting Why Him?
The film opens May 19th, 2017.
One of the most irreverent films of next year is also going to be one of the first: War on Everyone, a dark comedy from writer-director John Michael McDonagh starring Alexander Skarsgard (The East) and Michael Pena (Ant-Man) as a pair of crooked cops who have a side gig extorting criminals. But, as you might expect, they pick the wrong guy to blackmail and from there it all devolves quite hilariously.
War on Everyone premieres on DirecTV January 5th, and today the official trailer dropped. You’re definitely gonna want to get your eyes on the flick after watching the trailer, but if you don’t have DirecTV, don’t fret, War on Everyone will be in select theaters across the country and available for streaming on February 3rd.
And lastly, if you’ve had a bad day then this video is for you, as it shows famed and very old comedian Jerry Lewis in the midst of a much worse day. Lewis was sitting down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss his long career, but before the cameras even started rolling Lewis, miffed by the size of the shoot taking place in his home, decided he was done with this bullshit and ended up pretty much telling THR to go screw themselves by spitting one-word or uninformed answers to every single one of their questions. The reporter, Andy Lewis (no relation I’m presuming), still managed to pull some hits (more than he might have gotten from a good interview, even) by labeling the conversation as “The Most Painfully Awkward Interview of 2016,” and there’s truth in his advertising. I suppose at 90 you’ve earned the right to say whatever you want, but also I would think at such a precarious age you’d want to make a good impression in any interviews you agree to, as it might be the one for which the world remembers you (because of death and all that). Still, Lewis’ legacy aside, this is a highly-entertaining look at a curmudgeon who’s had all he can stand and won’t stand any more. Guaranteed to perk up your bad day a notch or two.
