As Picard says “We all have a story that is waiting to be claimed,” we catch a painful glimpse of Dahj’s skin smoldering from her face. She’s wearing the cloak we saw her in at the Chateau. This moment is from earlier when she first fled captivity. These steps were in the previous trailer during her battle with the black-masked goons, who were rummaging through the house a few shots previous.
Picard came to Riker to unload his frustrations with Starfleet and to confess the mission he’s about to embark upon. Sitting like the best of chums, the captain thanks his first officer for not trying to talk him out of this illegal and crazed action.
Riker can only laugh. “Believe me, I know better,” he says. Picard pats Riker on the hand. Jonathan Frakes has been working a lot on these most recent CBS All Access shows, directing episodes and offering advice to the new performers boldly going where few have gone before, but don’t expect Riker to be a regular on this series. He’s here to see the good captain off, but he’s got a family to consider now. He can’t galavant across the galaxy. Picard can; he has no family. Or, at least, his family is all of us. He can fight the big picture so we can deal with our little ones.
The trailer concludes with the two USS Enterprise bridge officers enjoying each others’ company. Who knows when they’ll have it again.
