Picard joins Elnor in the sword fight, and hopefully, his modest skill at fencing will help him prevail. During his time aboard the USS Enterprise-D, Picard sparred with Riker, Data, and Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg), and while he could often best them, he was no Lt. Sulu (George Takei) with a blade.

A mysterious masked figure smashes through a window while similar scoundrels raid the room behind him. These must be the cats chasing Dahj.

A pair of Romulans conspire against Dahj. “She was sent for a reason.” The male is Narek (Harry Treadaway), who appeared to be a friendly scientist in the last trailer but is clearly up to no good now. Dahj stares into the camera, and we catch a glimpse of two wedding bands attached to her necklace. Narek is also pulling on a string around his neck. We’re also dealing with a betrayal of the heart. “I’ll get the information we need,” he says.

Having never shared the screen before, Jean-Luc confronts Seven of Nine in her home. Like Musiker, she seems skeptical regarding the captain’s intentions. The man who routinely rescued the universe from the brink of destruction has a bit of a stain on his reputation. Producer Alex Kurtzman promised way back at the 2018 Star Trek Las Vegas convention that this Picard is not the man you knew from the films or The Next Generation. Seven of Nine spits her purpose at the old-timer: “I help people who have no else to help them.” What kind of aid is that?

How about a charging Chow Yun-fat style attack with dual phaser rifles? This shot is clearly from a different set. We can see a bar in the background with a couple of glasses of blue Romulan ale half drunk. The connections between her people and the homeless rebel Romulans continue, and their relationship is rocky.

If that was not geeky glorious enough, we’re given the reunion many of us where clamoring for the moment we heard the show was announced. William T. Riker is now a domesticated spouse scrubbing dishes while his child calls out from the backyard. “Come out here! It’s Jean-Luc Picard!” He spins and looks as surprised for this sequel adventure as we all originally were.

Deana Troi (Marina Sirtis) stands from her garden to give Picard a great big hug. Are the Rikers retired as well? What happened to Will’s command of the USSTitan? Or are they simply taking a break from the stars to appreciate the home they fight for every day?

The Borg named Hugh (Jonathan Del Arco), last seen leading a revolt alongside Data’s evil twin Lore in The Next Generation two-parter “Descent,” leads an escape out of a Cube vessel. Here is the mission Picard had to betray Starfleet to complete. At some point after their meeting at Chateau Picard, Dahj was kidnapped once again and brought aboard the Borg ship. Seven of Nine and Hugh, the only known humans to break themselves from the Collective, were the best options for infiltration. They look to have completed the first step in their plan, but breaking out of that box could prove to be futile.
