SFotD: The Jaw-Plummeting FX and Sublime Sci-Fi of ‘Grounded’

By  · Published on September 20th, 2012

Why Watch? Stop reading and press play. Just…hot damn this thing is fantastic.

Grounded, from Kevin Margo – a CG supervisor at the famous Blur Studio – is the most stunning piece of indie science fiction all year, and it comes complete with a kind of visceral feel to the story. The sort of energy that makes you respond physically to what’s happening on the screen.

What’s more, there’s a nebulous idea being explored here in reality-bending sequences where an astronaut has unsafely parachuted to the floor of the planet. But don’t worry too much about “getting it.” Just enjoy the ride, and don’t stand up too quickly after ingesting the sprawling gorgeousness of the visuals.

What will it cost you? Only 8 minutes.

Skip work. Watch more short films.
